N1: I think the scout in all of us rejoiced to see Luis Lara’s well-timed leaping grab in the 11th inning yesterday, followed by his excellent throw home against the next batter in an unsuccessful attemot to prevent the winning sacrifice fly.
The Nimmo-Benge line sent my eyes wide open at this early hour. Kudos to Nimmo for that extra SLG so he can sleep at night without feeling stalked by Father Time.
That Nimmo has had a good doubles season is reflected in his craeer-best 92.2 exit velocity. Benge's average exit velocity is 89.5. I believe I found that doubles, on average, are hit about 10 MPH harder than singles. So a higher total with everything else the same is not just about where the balls happen to fall, as could be said of triples vs, doubles. Iif more doubles were a matter of speed, too, we know Benge would have more than Nimmo; the EV is playing out as key here).
So, my little game aside, the numbers are really more similar than the players. But Benge's positive season-long trend, given his age, is of clear significance for the future.
I remember that I had low hopes for Nimmo when he was drafted. Ryan Sweeney came from a baseball cold-bed and couldn’t hang fully, and I wrongly lumped Nimmo in. Good on him for repping Wyoming.
